A type designer at heart, I work at the intersection of precision and perception.

My inspirations come from diverse sources, but as a kid growing up during China’s rapid urbanization in the 1990s, I found myself most fascinated by a blend of old and new store signage, TV graphics, and packaging. I started practicing traditional Chinese calligraphy at age 7. A mix of soft brush and fountain pen calligraphy, as well as seal carving, gave me a steady hand for creative lettering, which eventually led me to a career in graphic design after a short tenure at a public school kindergarten.

Coming from my cross-cultural background, I’m constantly reflecting on the dialogue of old versus new, vernacular versus standard, East versus West, and ultimately communism versus capitalism. Through design, I look to share my insights and contribute to culture—in other words, to have a dialogue with culture.
